Agartala, Oct 26 : The Tripura government has intensified monitoring of the distribution of free sugar, flour and suji among ration card holders during October and November, with Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury directing officials to ensure timely delivery of the commodities to all eligible beneficiaries.
Chowdhury on Monday chaired a high-level virtual review meeting to assess the implementation of the welfare initiative announced under a recent Cabinet decision.
The meeting, held at the minister’s official residence, was attended by the Director of the Food Department, senior departmental officials and Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) from different parts of the state.
During the meeting, officials reviewed the progress of distribution across various subdivisions and discussed operational challenges that could hamper the timely supply of the food items to beneficiaries.
Chowdhury stressed the importance of effective coordination among the Food Department and field-level officials to ensure that ration card holders receive their entitled commodities without inconvenience.
He also underlined the need to maintain transparency and accountability throughout the distribution process, directing officials to closely supervise the implementation of the initiative at the subdivision level.
The minister said the government’s objective was to ensure that the benefits of its welfare decisions reached the intended beneficiaries in a timely and hassle-free manner.
He instructed the concerned authorities to identify and address bottlenecks that could disrupt distribution and take corrective measures wherever necessary.
The meeting also discussed ways to strengthen coordination between the Food Department and the administration at the subdivision level to ensure uniform implementation of the programme across Tripura.
The free distribution of sugar, flour and suji for October and November follows a recent Cabinet decision and is intended to provide additional support to ration card holders during the festive season.
The initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to extend assistance to eligible households during the period, officials said.
Chowdhury called upon the officials to remain vigilant throughout the distribution process and ensure that no eligible beneficiary was deprived of the commodities due to administrative delays or implementation-related difficulties.
The review meeting was aimed at assessing progress, resolving operational issues and strengthening oversight to ensure that the welfare measure is implemented effectively across the state.
The government has emphasised that timely delivery, transparency and proper supervision remain key priorities in the implementation of the scheme.
