Tripura, 24 Oct 2026: Consumers once again expressed anger over electricity bills and the recharge system in Udaipur after a customer alleged that a recharge of ₹1,000 provided only 10 units of electricity. The complaint triggered tension at the Dhajanagar Electricity Office in Udaipur on Saturday, with other consumers also voicing their dissatisfaction.
Over the past few months, consumers across Tripura have repeatedly raised concerns over electricity bills and the recharge system. Protests were also reported in several places against the difficulties faced by consumers. At the time, the government had assured people that steps would be taken to resolve the issues. However, fresh complaints have once again raised questions about the functioning of the billing and recharge system.
According to the latest complaint, the situation had remained relatively normal over the past two months, but concerns resurfaced on Saturday after a consumer claimed to have received only 10 units of electricity following a recharge of ₹1,000. The allegation sparked anger at the Dhajanagar Electricity Office, prompting other consumers to share their grievances.
Consumers said that paying for electricity without receiving services corresponding to the amount spent would place an additional burden on ordinary households. With the prices of essential commodities already putting pressure on family budgets, the rising concern over electricity recharge expenses has added to their worries.
However, the exact reason behind the allegation that a ₹1,000 recharge provided only 10 units of electricity remains unclear. The matter requires verification, including an examination of how the recharge amount was adjusted and the concerned consumer’s electricity consumption records. An official statement from the electricity department was not available at the time of reporting.
Consumers are now questioning why they continue to face recurring problems with electricity bills and recharges. They have urged the concerned authorities to investigate the complaint promptly, clarify the reasons behind the alleged discrepancy and take effective measures to protect consumers’ interests.
It remains to be seen what steps the electricity department will take following the latest complaint from Dhajanagar and whether any concrete measures will be introduced to address consumers’ grievances.
