Agartala, October 6: Students from Assam Rifles Public Schools (ARPS) in Agartala and Udaipur met Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at Lok Bhavan in Mumbai during an educational tour under the “Know Your India” initiative, officials said.
The students were accompanied by their teachers and Assam Rifles personnel during the visit, which was aimed at providing them with exposure to the country’s cultural and institutional diversity.
Varma, who earlier served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, interacted with the students and encouraged them to explore Maharashtra’s rich history, traditions and cultural heritage.
He advised them to pursue their education with dedication, remain rooted in their culture and contribute constructively to the nation.
Emphasising the importance of experiential learning, Varma directed his office to facilitate a visit by the students to Mumbai Film City and arrange an interaction with members of the Hindi film industry.
The students subsequently visited Film City as part of their Mumbai itinerary and were taken on a guided tour of its film and television production facilities.
They received an overview of the filmmaking process and gained an understanding of the creative and technical activities involved in producing films and television programmes.
The visit also exposed the students to the functioning of one of India’s major entertainment production centres and offered them an opportunity to learn beyond the classroom.
The “Know Your India” initiative seeks to provide students with first-hand exposure to different parts of the country, with an emphasis on understanding its cultural diversity, institutional heritage and shared traditions.
Officials said the programme also promotes national integration and reinforces the spirit of unity in diversity by allowing young participants to experience India’s varied social and cultural landscape.
Varma appreciated the Assam Rifles for organising the educational exposure and said such initiatives could help students develop a better understanding of India’s traditions and diversity.
He also underlined the importance of such experiences in building confidence and strengthening a sense of national consciousness among young people.
The students expressed gratitude for the governor’s interaction and the opportunities provided during their Mumbai visit.
They described the meeting at Lok Bhavan and the Film City tour as memorable and enriching.
The educational tour is intended to broaden the students’ understanding of India’s shared heritage while complementing classroom learning with practical experiences, officials said.
