Agartala, October 2: The Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala distributed new clothes among 175 people at Kalyanpur in Tripura on Friday as part of a community outreach initiative ahead of Durga Puja.
The programme was organised at Kalyanpur Bazar Natmandir, with the club reaching out to people from economically weaker sections ahead of the festive season.
Sarees, dhotis and vests were distributed among the beneficiaries during the programme. The recipients expressed happiness over receiving the clothes ahead of Durga Puja.
Kalyanpur MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, ATMA Committee Chairman Nitai Bal, Kalyanpur Merchant Association Secretary Asim Deb Roy, office-bearers of the Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala and other local representatives attended the event.
The organisers said the programme was aimed at sharing the festive spirit with families who may face financial constraints and ensuring that they could participate in the celebrations.
The guests appreciated the initiative and highlighted the role of community organisations in undertaking welfare activities and extending support to people from different sections of society.
They said festivals such as Durga Puja provide an opportunity for communities to come together and share happiness while extending assistance to those who require support.
The programme also highlighted the importance of voluntary participation and social responsibility during the festive season.
Durga Puja is traditionally marked by religious rituals, cultural programmes, family gatherings and the purchase of new clothes. However, festive expenses can be difficult for economically weaker families to meet.
The organisers said the clothes distribution was intended to provide assistance to beneficiaries while also allowing them to participate in the festive celebrations.
They said the initiative reflected the values of compassion, solidarity and community service and sought to strengthen social bonds at the local level.
Representatives of local organisations, members of the merchant community and Rotary Club volunteers took part in the programme and assisted with the distribution.
The beneficiaries thanked the organisers for the gesture and said the new clothes would add to the festive celebrations in their households.
The Rotary Club said community welfare programmes during festivals can help promote greater participation and support for economically weaker sections.
The organisers also said such initiatives convey a message of inclusion and demonstrate the importance of standing with families facing financial difficulties.
The Rotary Club of Aspiring Agartala said it would continue undertaking community-oriented activities as part of its social service initiatives.
The programme was organised ahead of Durga Puja, which will be celebrated across Tripura with religious and cultural events.
