Tripura, 22 Sep 2026: Tension prevailed at Dharmanagar Degree College after students affiliated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) launched a protest demanding solutions to several long-standing issues at the college.
During the protest, ABVP activists allegedly locked the college premises, leaving the principal and a few others, including Dharmanagar BJP leader Bornali Goswami, inside the campus. The incident led to a tense situation on the college premises for some time.
The protesting students alleged that outsiders regularly organise activities, including blood donation programmes, inside the college campus. According to the protesters, such programmes disrupt the academic environment and cause inconvenience to students who travel from distant areas to attend classes.
The ABVP also raised concerns over a shortage of teachers and the lack of adequate and purified drinking water at the college. The protesters claimed that they had repeatedly informed the college authorities about these issues and had also submitted deputations seeking solutions.
However, the students alleged that despite repeated appeals, the problems had not been resolved permanently. Subsequently, the protesting students locked the college and staged a sit-in demanding immediate action.
The protesters demanded that the academic environment be maintained properly, the teacher shortage and drinking water problems be addressed at the earliest, and effective measures be taken to regulate programmes organised by outsiders inside the college campus.
Although the incident triggered tension on the college premises, the situation was later brought under control.
