Agartala, September 22: A five-day capacity-building programme for school teachers commenced in Tripura on Tuesday, focusing on professional development, improved classroom practices and better learning outcomes for students.
The training is being held at the indoor hall of Hapania International Fair Ground and has been organised by NECERT in association with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) under the National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA).
NCERT Director Prof Dinesh Prasad Saklani inaugurated the programme in the presence of School Education Department Secretary Dr Milind Ramteke.
Saklani, addressing the participants, said the implementation of the National Education Policy would depend significantly on the ability of teachers to adapt to its new approach to education.
He emphasised that learning should not be confined to textbooks and classrooms, pointing out that children in remote areas often develop understanding through their interaction with nature and their surroundings. Such experiences, he said, should be used to nurture creativity and curiosity among students.
The NCERT director also stressed the importance of obtaining feedback from learners and participants while designing and reviewing educational programmes. Suggestions emerging from the training, he said, could help improve the initiative further.
Ramteke said the programme would give particular attention to primary and school education. He also highlighted Tripura’s literacy performance, saying the state currently ranks third nationally, and expressed hope that the training would strengthen teachers’ professional capabilities.
SCERT Director L Darlong delivered the welcome address, while Prof Ranjana Arora, Head of the Department of Curriculum Studies and Development at NCERT, outlined the NISHTHA programme and its objectives.
Prof Sarad Sinha, Head of the Department of Teacher Education at NCERT, attended the inaugural session as the guest of honour.
A short documentary on the NISHTHA programme was screened during the inaugural event.
