Agartala, September 21: Tripura’s handicraft products are receiving exposure at the Karnataka Saras Fair 2026, where two women Self-Help Group (SHG) members from Poangbari BMMU in South Tripura are representing the state and promoting products made through rural livelihood initiatives.
The fair, organised in Karnataka from September 9 to 27, has brought together artisans, SHG members and rural entrepreneurs from across the country. The Tripura representatives are displaying handcrafted products that combine traditional skills with the state’s distinctive cultural identity.
Participation in the fair has enabled the women to take their products beyond the local market and engage directly with customers and potential buyers. The platform is also giving them an opportunity to gain practical experience in marketing their products and understanding demand in new markets.
Officials of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) said national exhibitions provide SHG members with opportunities to establish market connections and expand the reach of their products. Such exposure, they said, can also help rural women strengthen their entrepreneurial capabilities.
For the participating artisans, the fair offers more than a sales platform, providing an opportunity to showcase Tripura’s traditional craftsmanship to visitors from different parts of the country.
The initiative is expected to support livelihood generation among rural women and encourage SHG-based enterprises. Greater access to markets can help artisans develop sustainable income opportunities while strengthening grassroots entrepreneurship.
The Tripura stall has received encouraging responses from visitors, with attendees showing interest in the craftsmanship and distinctive character of the products on display.
Officials said national fairs also serve as platforms for cultural exchange, allowing traditional crafts from different states to reach new audiences and gain visibility in the wider marketplace.
The participation of the two women SHG members at the Karnataka Saras Fair highlights the growing efforts to connect Tripura’s rural producers with national markets while showcasing the skills and enterprise of women artisans from the state.
