Agartala, September 20: Tripura Minister Sudhangshu Das on Saturday congratulated the newly elected office-bearers of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) and hailed the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) performance, saying the results reflected, in his view, a growing inclination among young people towards nationalism and the ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision.
Das made the remarks during a Facebook Live address after ABVP won three of the four central DUSU posts. Yash Dabas emerged as president, Riya Chhawdi secured the secretary’s post and Lakshya Raj Singh was elected joint secretary. Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president’s position.
Highlighting Delhi University’s diverse student base, Das described the institution as “Mini India” and said developments on its campus carried significance beyond the university. According to him, the results offered an indication of the political outlook of a section of the younger generation.
The minister subsequently criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, claiming that the DUSU verdict had rejected what he termed the “politics of lies” and reflected support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India.
Das also mentioned Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme held in Indore, questioning its appeal among students. He alleged that the Congress and other opposition parties were attempting to influence Gen Z through what he described as “false propaganda”.
Referring to the election tally, Das noted that the Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) did not win any of the four central positions.
He also criticised Communist parties and other opposition groups, alleging that they were working against nationalism and India’s cultural traditions. In his address, he used the expressions “Urban Naxals” and “intellectual Naxals” for groups he was criticising.
Calling on the youth to remain vigilant against what he described as “forthcoming conspiracies and propaganda”, Das invoked Swami Vivekananda and urged young people to pursue a positive approach while contributing to nation-building.
Das concluded by congratulating the elected DUSU representatives and expressing hope that the new leadership would work for the welfare of students and contribute to the country’s future.
