Agartala, September 18, 2026: Airport Police detained three Bangladeshi women and an Indian tout near Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport on Friday. Airport Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shyamal Debnath provided details of the incident.
According to OC Shyamal Debnath, police received secret information at around 4:30 PM on September 17 about suspected Bangladeshi nationals moving around near the airport. A police team, including women officers, reached the location and detained three women and one man.
During questioning, the three women allegedly admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals, while the man was identified as Mazarul Islam, a resident of Khaidakhla under Jatrapur Police Station.
Police said the women did not possess valid documents authorising their entry into India. A preliminary investigation revealed that they were from Khulna district of Bangladesh and had allegedly entered India through the Sonamura border.
According to police, Mazarul Islam was taking the three women to Guwahati by air. An air ticket for Guwahati was reportedly found in his possession.
The women stated during preliminary questioning that they had come to India for employment purposes. However, police said their actual intentions and the possible involvement of others would be established through further investigation.
Airport Police registered a specific case and produced the accused before the LD Mohanpur Court on September 18, seeking five days of remand for Mazarul Islam.
Responding to questions about the possibility of a human trafficking network, OC Shyamal Debnath said the investigation was ongoing and further details would emerge following interrogation.
Police also confirmed that no Indian identity documents were recovered from the three Bangladeshi women.
