Agartala, September 11: A joint operation by Tripura Police and the BSF in Sepahijala district led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of 120 grams of Yaba tablets, a factory-made pistol and five live rounds, police said.
The raid was conducted in the South Kalamchoura (Galachipa) area of Sonamura sub-division following a specific intelligence input about suspected illegal activities.
Personnel from Kalamchoura and Sonamura police stations, along with members of the 81st Battalion BSF, took part in the operation under the supervision of the Sonamura SDPO.
The arrested persons were identified as Joynal Hossen, 37, of Madhya Boxanagar, and Prasanjit Sarkar, 35, of South Kalamchoura.
According to police, the recovery was made during the search of the area. The narcotics, firearm and ammunition were subsequently seized for further legal proceedings.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act and Arms Act. Police have launched a further investigation into the case, including the source of the seized drugs and firearm and the possible involvement of other persons in the illegal trade.
The authorities are also examining whether the accused have any connection with a wider network involved in the trafficking of narcotics or illegal arms.
