Agartala, September 6: Tripura’s young judoka Mrigakshi Saha returned to Agartala early Sunday after winning a gold medal in judo at the 55th KVS National Sports Competition 2026–27, held in Agra.
Mrigakshi Saha arrived at Agartala Railway Station at around 3:30 am by train, where she was warmly welcomed and felicitated by her coach Pradip Sarkar, family members and well-wishers. She was presented with flowers and a traditional stole as she displayed her gold medal and certificate.
Speaking about her achievement, Mrigakshi Saha said she credits her success to her coach, parents, school and seniors. Recalling her bout against a competitor from Delhi, she admitted that she initially felt nervous about whether she would be able to win. However, once she stepped onto the mat, she became determined to win the gold.
> “When I stepped onto the mat, I thought that since I was fighting for gold, I would bring the gold home and not let anyone else take it,” Mrigakhi said.
She said her goal is to perform even better in future competitions and win more medals for Tripura. She also emphasized the importance of regular and dedicated practice.
Mrigakhi’s father credited her success primarily to coach Pradip Sarkar, saying the coach had introduced her to judo and recognized her potential to compete at the national level. He also thanked the administration of KV Kunjaban School for supporting his daughter’s journey.
Coach Pradip Sarkar said the focus now would be on hard work and intensive training so that Mrigakhi can win more medals for the state in upcoming national-level competitions.
He also encouraged more girls to take up judo, highlighting the sport’s importance not only as a competitive discipline but also as a means of self-defence.
Mrigakhi’s national gold medal has brought recognition to Tripura and added another promising achievement to the state’s sporting landscape.
