Agartala, 01 August 2026: Sensation prevailed in the North Banamalipur area of Agartala after the bodies of Suman Debbarma (40) and Priya Debbarma (39) were recovered from a room near Bhagwan Thakur Choumuhani, close to Abhoynagar Bridge.
According to preliminary information, the two had reportedly been living together in a live-in relationship for around three years.
A neighbour, Rupesh Debnath, said that residents had noticed a foul smell coming from the room. When a family member went inside to check, one person was reportedly found hanging, while the other was found lying on the floor. Police were immediately informed.
The neighbour further claimed that the couple frequently consumed alcohol and allegedly had quarrels. However, these statements are yet to be independently verified and should not be treated as the cause of the deaths.
Police officials said that they received information about a hanging incident in the morning and reached the spot near Abhoynagar Bridge. The bodies of Suman Debbarma and Priya Debbarma were recovered from the house.
Police have not confirmed the cause of death. A forensic team has been called to the scene, and the exact circumstances will be established after the post-mortem examination and receipt of the post-mortem report.
The incident has created tension and curiosity in the locality, while police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
