Tripura, 1 Sep 2026: A serious allegation of sexual assault involving a Class X student of Ampi English Medium Model Higher Secondary School has surfaced in Amarpur, Tripura, with a teacher accused in connection with the incident.
According to the complaint, the student had allegedly visited the residence of teacher Bhulu Sarkar near the Punjab National bank of Amarsagar before travelling to Udaipur to attend a science seminar. It is alleged that the teacher took the student to a room on the pretext of preparing for the seminar and sexually assaulted her. A further allegation has also been made regarding an incident while the student was returning after the seminar.
A written complaint was reportedly lodged at Amarpur Birganj Police Station on Saturday evening. Following the complaint, the accused teacher was reportedly untraceable for some time.
On Sunday, August 30, at around 1 PM, Bhulu Sarkar reportedly surrendered at Amarpur Birganj Police Station. Police have initiated questioning and further legal proceedings based on the complaint.
The Young Tripuri Association (YTA) has also approached the Tripura Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TCPCR) and the Tripura Commission for Women, seeking immediate intervention, an impartial investigation and appropriate legal and departmental action.
YTA has stated that, if established through investigation, the alleged conduct may attract provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, including provisions relating to sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault where applicable.
Police investigation is underway, and the allegations are yet to be established. The identity and privacy of the minor must be strictly protected throughout the legal proceedings.
Earlier Harassment Allegation Also Reportedly Surfaced
According to local sources, years ago, when Bhulu Sarkar was reportedly providing private tuition, a harassment allegation was also raised against him. At that time, he was reportedly working as a contractual teacher at Dakshin Amarpur Higher Secondary School.
Sources further stated that Sarkar had been involved in teaching in the Amarpur area for many years and had been known locally for providing private tuition. The details and outcome of the earlier alleged harassment case could not be independently verified.
