Agartala, 19 August 2026: Police have detained one person in connection with the alleged theft of a laptop from the Department of Community Medicine at AGMC & GBP Hospital on August 17.
A doctor lodged a complaint following the incident, after which New Capital Complex Police Station registered a case under Sections 329(2) and 305(e) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the investigation, SI Swapan Das of the GBP Hospital police outpost detained a suspect. Police said a laptop, two Android mobile phones and a wristwatch were recovered from his possession in the Kunjaban area.
The accused was produced before the court, with police seeking four days of police remand for further interrogation.
Police said the ownership of the recovered laptop and other items is being verified. The officer also said the suspect has admitted that the recovered items were stolen, while investigators are trying to determine where the items were stolen from.
Police have not yet confirmed whether the accused has any previous criminal cases. Further interrogation is expected to establish his possible involvement in other theft incidents.
The detained person reportedly hails from Banamalipur and currently stays in government quarters at Kunjaban.
The investigation by New Capital Complex Police Station is underway.
