Agartala, August 18, 2026: Residents of Indranagar in Agartala on Tuesday submitted a deputation to the Officer-in-Charge of NCC Police Station, alleging extortion, threats and other anti-social activities in the area.
According to the residents, a group allegedly associated with the family of Congress Block President Sanjib De has been involved in holding drinking and drug sessions at his residence. They further alleged that his younger brother, Sujit De, along with other youths, has been collecting money from local shopkeepers, contractors and businesspersons.
The residents alleged that those who refuse to pay are threatened with physical harm. They claimed that the alleged activities have created fear among local residents and affected normal business activities in the area.
Residents said they had previously informed police at the GB outpost about the alleged activities, but claimed that the situation had not improved. They therefore approached NCC Police Station on Tuesday and sought immediate police intervention.
During the deputation, residents alleged that the group’s activities extend across areas from GB and Nandanagar to Noagaon and the Indranagar bridge. They also alleged that threats and intimidation have made it difficult for some people to operate their shops and conduct business normally.
The allegations were made by the residents during their interaction with the media and police. No independent verification of the allegations was available at the time of reporting. The persons named in the allegations have not been given an opportunity to respond in the information available.
