Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday inaugurated six projects and laid the foundation stones for 12 others, involving a total investment of Rs 45.18 crore, as part of the state government’s efforts to accelerate development in Unakoti district.
Addressing a programme at the Dalugaon Higher Secondary School ground, Saha said the government was committed to ensuring that development was not limited to Agartala but reached people in every part of Tripura.
He said government employees and elected representatives were working to ensure that the benefits of various development initiatives reached all sections of society.
Focusing on healthcare infrastructure, the Chief Minister announced that a trauma care centre would soon be opened in Unakoti district. He also said steps would be taken to renovate the district’s old hospital to strengthen healthcare services.
Saha said he had inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth around Rs 1,500 crore during the previous financial year. In the current financial year, people-centric projects worth nearly Rs 440 crore have so far been inaugurated or launched across different districts.
According to the Chief Minister, 56 projects worth Rs 197.68 crore have been inaugurated or launched in Unakoti district since 2022. The latest projects add another Rs 45.18 crore to the district’s development initiatives.
During the programme, Saha also launched the ‘Clean and Green Unakoti’ initiative. Highlighting the district’s tourism potential, he said Unakoti’s archaeological heritage site was renowned worldwide and discussions were underway to reopen Kailashahar Airport. The move, he said, would improve connectivity and make it easier for tourists to visit the destination.
The Chief Minister also said he had signed the necessary files for setting up a 100-bed Medical College at Ambassa, marking another step towards strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
Minister Tinku Roy, Unakoti Zilla Sabhadhipati Amalendu Das, District Magistrate Megha Jain, other elected representatives, officials and local residents attended the programme.
