Tripura, July 30: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Thursday laid the foundation stones for three major educational infrastructure projects worth ₹25.35 crore at Baijalbari Higher Secondary School ground in Khowai district.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the state government is prioritising the development of education, healthcare, sports infrastructure, tribal welfare, and women’s empowerment. He stated that development activities are progressing rapidly across Tripura and that the government is committed to ensuring the benefits reach every section of society.
Dr. Saha informed that projects worth ₹327 crore have already been inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid during the current financial year.
Highlighting the importance of peace and stability, he said the state’s improved law and order situation has accelerated development and attracted investment interest from industrialists and entrepreneurs across the country. He added that the government is providing all possible support to encourage investment and economic growth.
The Chief Minister also stressed that development work is being carried out without political discrimination. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on human resource development, he said the state government is modernising educational infrastructure and promoting the use of technology in schools.
Speaking on sports, Dr. Saha said synthetic football turfs, open gyms, and sports equipment have been provided across the state to encourage youth participation. On women’s education and empowerment, he said the government is working to prevent child marriage and reduce school dropout rates among girls. So far, 1.22 lakh bicycles have been distributed to girl students, with another 41,000 bicycles planned for distribution. He also noted that college fees for female students have been waived and that the state has announced plans to upgrade Women’s College into a Women’s University.
Highlighting initiatives for tribal students, the Chief Minister said residential schools and hostel facilities have been upgraded, stipends increased, and 21 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) are currently functioning in Tripura. The state has requested the Centre to sanction more EMRS, while boarding houses are being constructed in tribal-dominated areas and one-time financial assistance is being provided for higher education.
MLA Ranjit Debbarma said the government has maintained steady development across all sectors, benefiting people from every section of society.
The welcome address was delivered by Khowai District Magistrate Rajat Pant. The programme was attended by MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, Khowai Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Singh Roy, MDC James Debbarma, Education Secretary Dr. Milind Ramteke, Khowai SP B. Jagadishwar Reddy, and other officials. The event began with a tree plantation drive led by the dignitaries.
