Tripura, July 24, 2026: The College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, Lembucherra campus in Tripura, virtually participated in the inaugural session of the National Buyer-Seller Meet cum Exhibition on Indigenous and Heritage Products of Northeast India on Friday.
The event was held at the State Convention Centre in Shillong, Meghalaya, and organized by the College of Community Science, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Tura, under the theme “From Heritage to Enterprise: Empowering Women Artisans in Northeast India.”
The programme aims to promote the indigenous and heritage products of the Northeastern region by strengthening market linkages, encouraging entrepreneurship, and empowering women artisans through better access to buyers, institutions, and key stakeholders.
The inaugural session was attended by Dr. Mehtab Chandee A. Sangma, Hon’ble MLA of Gambegre Constituency, as the Chief Guest, while Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor of Central Agricultural University, Imphal, presided over the programme.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries highlighted the Northeast’s rich cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship, emphasizing the need for value addition, branding, entrepreneurship, and market-oriented initiatives to improve the livelihoods of rural communities, particularly women artisans.
They also stressed the important role of educational institutions, research organizations, and extension agencies in preserving indigenous knowledge, promoting traditional products, and building sustainable rural enterprises across the region.
The virtual participation of the College of Fisheries, Lembucherra, reflected the institution’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote indigenous heritage, rural entrepreneurship, and sustainable development in Northeast India.
