Agartala, July 20: Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar, IPS, died on Monday after allegedly attempting suicide inside his office at the Police Headquarters in Agartala.
Following the incident, he was rushed to GB Pant Hospital, where doctors immediately began emergency treatment. Earlier, Health Secretary Kiran Gitte said that the DGP had been brought to the hospital and that the medical team was making every effort to save his life. He had also stated that the Medical Superintendent would provide further details.
Later, senior physician Dr. Pradip Bhowmik confirmed that Anurag Dhankar was brought to the hospital with no detectable pulse, blood pressure, or other vital signs, indicating that he had been brought dead.
According to the hospital, from 12:00 PM to 12:48 PM, a team of medical experts carried out continuous Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and followed all standard emergency resuscitation protocols for approximately 48 minutes in an attempt to revive him. However, despite exhaustive efforts, he showed no response.
At 12:48 PM, the attending doctors officially declared him dead.
As Dhankar was unresponsive upon arrival and diagnostic procedures such as an ECG could not be performed, the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
The alleged suicide of the state’s top police officer has sent shockwaves across Tripura. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. More details are awaited.
