Agartala: July 05: Laljuri Police Outpost in North Tripura seized 39,200 illegal Burmese cigarettes with an estimated black-market value of around ₹6 lakh and impounded the vehicle used for transporting the contraband.
Police said the seizure was made during a naka checking operation conducted at a local checkpoint following a specific tip-off.
Acting under the leadership of the Officer-in-Charge of Laljuri Police Outpost, the police intercepted a suspicious vehicle bearing registration number TR-02N-0726.
During the search, officers recovered 196 bundles containing 39,200 foreign-made Burmese cigarettes. As the occupants failed to produce any valid documents for the consignment, the cigarettes and the vehicle were seized under Section 106 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Police have launched further legal proceedings and are investigating the involvement of others linked to the suspected smuggling network.
