Agartala, Apr 21. Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jitendra Chaudhury on Wednesday demanded that financial assistance be extended to all families affected by political violence in Tripura since 2018, irrespective of political affiliation.
His demand comes days after Chief Minister Dr. (Prof.) Manik Saha announced financial aid of Rs 64.50 lakh for 258 families impacted by recent post-poll violence.
The demand follows incidents of unrest reported after the declaration of results for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections on April 17. According to reports, houses belonging to workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were allegedly vandalised, and some party offices were set on fire. The ruling party alleged involvement of supporters of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) in the attacks, while several affected families were shifted to relief camps.
Chaudhury said compensation should be provided to all victims of political violence to ensure fairness and justice, cutting across party lines.
