Agartala, Apr 18. A transgender Bangladeshi national was detained by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel from the Dharmanagar railway station area in North Tripura, officials said on Saturday.
The individual, identified as Munna Sarkar, a resident of Bagula in Bangladesh, was later handed over to Dharmanagar police for further legal action.
According to police sources, Sarkar allegedly entered Indian territory illegally with the help of a tout by paying around Rs 10,000. During preliminary interrogation, the detainee stated that the intention was to travel to Guwahati in search of work.
The incident has once again raised concerns over border security in the region, with locals questioning how the individual managed to cross into India undetected.
Police have initiated an investigation and are continuing to interrogate the detainee to ascertain further details, officials added.
