Dharmanagar, Apr 05: Police arrested one person and seized 2.182 kg of suspected dry ganja during a vehicle check at the naka point in front of Churaibari Police Station along National Highway-8 on Sunday evening.
According to police sources, the seizure was made during routine checking led by Officer-in-Charge Debabrata Biswas. A passenger bus bearing registration number AS-01JC-1499, which was heading out of the state, was stopped for inspection.
During the search operation, police recovered four packets of dry ganja, weighing a total of 2.182 kg, from the possession of a passenger identified as Nadia Chowdhury (61), a resident of Gandhigram under Airport Police Station.
The accused was immediately taken into custody. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further legal proceedings are underway.
Police have launched a detailed investigation into the matter to trace possible links and the source of the contraband.
