Khowai, Apr 1: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker, who recently switched from Tipra Motha Party (TMP) was critically injured following a violent clash with Motha supporters in Khowai district on Wednesday and was later referred to GB Hospital for advanced treatment.
The incident took place at Anath Chowdhury Para in Tulasikhar under the 9-Asarambari–Halahali constituency, amid rising political tensions ahead of the TTAADC elections. The injured have been identified as Sabir Debbarma.
According to reports, Sabir Debbarma had recently switched allegiance from Tipra Motha to the BJP. On Wednesday afternoon, while he was on his way out of his house, he was allegedly attacked by a group of anguish Tipra Motha supporters, leaving him seriously injured.
He was initially taken to the Chebri Primary Health Centre by BJP workers. Considering the severity of his injuries, doctors referred him to GB Hospital in Agartala for better medical care.
Senior BJP leaders, including Khowai district president Binoy Debbarma and Panchayat Samiti Vice Chairman Uttam Adhikari, rushed to the health centre after receiving information about the incident.
The clash has triggered tension in the area, with political temperatures continuing to rise as the ADC elections draw closer.
