Khowai: Feb 27. A decomposed body of an unidentified man was found hanging in a jhum field near Khasiamangal BSF Camp under Teliamura block of Khowai district, causing widespread shock in the locality.
Preliminary police estimates suggest the deceased was between 50 and 55 years old, wearing a khaki shirt and blue lungi.
Locals are divided over the identity of the man some believe he may have been collecting firewood, while others suspect he was a jhum cultivator. Teliamura police reached the scene, recovered the body, and sent it to Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital for examination. Investigation into the incident has begun.
According to ASI Nepal Mundar, the body appears to have been there for eight to nine days. Questions remain about how someone could hang themselves while sitting in a makeshift structure, leaving authorities to consider whether this was suicide or a planned murder.
With the jhum land scheduled for clearing by fire in the coming days, and a pile of dry firewood found near the body, uncertainty persists over whether the man was a jhum worker or a firewood collector. Local speculation ranges from accidental death to foul play.
Police continue their probe to uncover the truth.
