Dharmanagar: Feb 24. An e-rickshaw driver in Dharmanagar has been left without his only source of income after unidentified miscreants allegedly stole all four batteries of his rented vehicle on Monday evening. Despite a written complaint being lodged, no recovery has been reported even after 24 hours.
The incident took place under Dharmanagar Police Station limits in Ward No. 3 of Purba Hurua Gram Panchayat. The victim, Asim Sharma, had parked his e-rickshaw near the Purba Hurua ration shop around 7 pm before briefly visiting a relative’s house nearby. When he returned 20–25 minutes later and attempted to start the vehicle, it failed to power on.
On inspection, he discovered that all four batteries had been removed and stolen. Local residents rushed to the spot after hearing his calls for help, but a search of the surrounding area yielded no results.
Sharma later filed a written complaint at Dharmanagar Police Station. He stated that this was the first such incident reported in the locality. “This e-rickshaw is my family’s only means of livelihood. With the batteries gone, I cannot work. The cost of four batteries is around ₹40,000, which I cannot afford,” he said.
Residents of the area have urged the police to take swift action. However, as of Tuesday evening, no official update regarding recovery or arrests has been made public.
Police sources have not yet issued a formal statement on the progress of the investigation.
