Tripura, 21 Feb 2026: Tension gripped Chamu Basti under Asharambari on Tuesday evening following serious allegations against personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF), including firing in the air and assaulting members of a local family. Two injured persons have been brought to Khowai District Hospital for treatment.
According to the details of the incident, a resident of the area, Susankar Deb, alleged that earlier in the afternoon, BSF personnel, led by Company Commandant Anil Kumar, arrived on motorcycles following a complaint and allegedly assaulted him, leaving him injured. He later went to Khowai District Hospital for medical treatment.
While he was at the hospital, he reportedly received a call informing him that 10 to 15 BSF personnel had arrived at his residence, fired shots in the air, and forcibly entered the house.
Hearing the sound of gunfire, his mother, identified as Namita Deb (60), came out of the house with a torch. It has been alleged that the personnel snatched the torch from her and assaulted her, causing injuries.
Further allegations state that the personnel entered the house without the presence of any female security staff, broke down two doors using sharp weapons, and dragged his niece, who was lying on the bed, to the ground.
Additionally, it has been alleged that a seven-month pregnant woman in the family was pushed forcefully, causing her to fall and sustain injuries.
The victim has also claimed that when he sought clarification earlier in the day regarding the allegations against him, the personnel refused to provide any explanation.
The incident has sparked outrage among local residents, with many questioning whether such actions are justified even in the course of preventing illegal activities along the border. Locals have demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.
Residents have raised concerns about whether an entire family should suffer for allegations against a single individual and have called for accountability if the claims are found to be true.
The official response from the BSF regarding the incident is still awaited.
