Khowai, Feb 19: A 30-year-old man was allegedly beaten severely and left bleeding on a roadside in the Chebri area of Khowai on Wednesday night, triggering tension across the local market.
The victim, identified as Rajen Tanti of Chebri, accused local resident Samresh Debbarma and his family of assaulting him near the Office Tilla locality. According to Rajen, he was attacked and repeatedly beaten, suffering serious head injuries. He managed to escape and run toward Chebri market, where he collapsed and lay bleeding for a prolonged period.
Local shopkeepers noticed him in critical condition and alerted the fire service. Rescue personnel arrived promptly and shifted him to Khowai District Hospital for treatment. Hospital authorities confirmed that he remained under medical care throughout the night and was discharged on Thursday afternoon.
Due to the severity of his injuries, Rajen was reportedly unable to speak clearly, and the exact motive behind the assault remains unknown.
The incident has sparked unrest in the Chebri Office Tilla area, with tension prevailing in and around the market as residents demand clarity over the circumstances leading to the attack.
