Tripura, 12 Feb 2026: Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Wednesday evening inaugurated the 21st Rajarshi Festival at Rajnagar in Udaipur, stating that the festival is not only a celebration of joy but also a proud carrier of the state’s ancient history and cultural heritage.
Addressing the gathering at the historic Bhuvaneswari Temple premises, the Minister emphasized that while preserving tradition is essential, development must continue simultaneously. He informed that the state government has plans to further beautify the Bhuvaneswari Temple complex, and work has already begun to transform Udaipur into a fully developed cultural city.
Describing the Bhuvaneswari Temple as a historic and heritage site, he said the Rajarshi Festival is organized every year in this sacred temple complex. Calling it one of the most traditional festivals of the state, he highlighted the deep historical relationship between Rabindranath Tagore and the erstwhile kings of Tripura.
The Minister further said that Udaipur is a spiritual city and initiatives have been undertaken to beautify its historic lakes. He recalled that Udaipur once served as the capital of the state and said the government is working towards establishing it as the cultural capital while preserving its royal legacy.
He also stressed the need to develop modern infrastructure around the Bhuvaneswari Temple complex to promote art and cultural activities. Mentioning that both the Central and State governments are working to preserve Indigenous cultures, he wished the festival grand success.
Earlier, Ajay Dey, Deputy Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department, delivered the welcome address. The programme was presided over by MLA Rampada Jamatia. Among others present were Udaipur Municipal Council Chairperson Shital Chandra Majumder, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Tridip Sarkar, and other dignitaries.
Several government departments have set up development-oriented stalls to mark the occasion. A colourful cultural programme was also organised as part of the celebrations.
The festival will continue till February 13.
