Khowai: Feb 07. In a major breakthrough in the ongoing anti-narcotics drive, Mungiakami Police on Saturday intercepted a luxury Thar SUV during routine naka checking at the 41 Mile point on the Assam–Agartala National Highway and seized a large quantity of brown sugar along with banned cough syrup. Three persons travelling in the vehicle were arrested on the spot.
According to police sources, acting on a tip-off, the vehicle—found without a registration number was stopped and searched. During the search, brown sugar was recovered concealed inside seven soap cases in a highly sophisticated manner. Some quantity of prohibited cough syrup was also seized.
The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Teliamura, Rohan Kisan, along with DCM Sandeep Debbarma, rushed to the spot and supervised the operation.
SDPO Rohan Kisan stated that during preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted the contraband was being transported from Meghalaya to Tripura. He added that the involvement of a larger drug trafficking network cannot be ruled out and a detailed investigation is underway.
Police officials said stricter naka checking and special drives will continue across the state to curb drug trafficking. The successful operation has been widely appreciated by locals, who see it as a strong message against the drug menace.
