Agartala: Feb 07: The 25th edition of Bharat Rang Mahotsav (BRM) 2026, the world’s largest international theatre festival organised by the National School of Drama (NSD) under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, will be held in Agartala from February 8 to 12 at the Anand Auditorium, Nazrul Kalakshetra.
The five-day theatre showcase will feature diverse productions from across India, highlighting rich cultural narratives and varied performance traditions. The details were shared by Biplob Borkakoti, Director, NSD Theatre-in-Education (TIE) Tripura Centre, at a press conference held here today.
The Agartala chapter of BRM 2026 will open on February 8 with “Temptations”, written by Himanshu B. Joshi and directed by Biplob Borkakoti, presented by the TIE Wing Tripura, marking the formal inauguration of the festival in the state.
On February 9, the audience will witness “Mukta Nisanga”, an Assamese adaptation of Anton Chekhov, directed by Baharul Islam and performed by Seagull, Guwahati.
The programme continues on February 10 with the Hindi solo performance “Gift of Goddess”, written by Harikesh Maurya and directed by Raman Kumar, presented by an individual artist from Delhi.
The festival will stage the Bengali classic “Manmoyee Girls’ School” on February 11, written by Rabindranath Maitra and directed by Sima Mukherjee, performed by Rangroop, Kolkata. The Agartala chapter will conclude on February 12 with “Arjun Bhanjan”, based on the traditional Ankiya Bhaona form, written by Mahapurush Madhav Dev and directed by Bhaben Borbayan, performed by the TIE Wing Tripura in Brijawali.
In a message, NSD Director Chittaranjan Tripathy said Tripura has been a key centre of NSD’s Theatre-in-Education activities and expressed confidence that BRM 2026 would further strengthen the state’s cultural engagement.
BRM 2026 is being held from January 27 to February 20, featuring over 277 productions in 228 languages, with participation from nine countries, reaffirming NSD’s commitment to inclusivity and the democratisation of theatre.
