Gomati, Feb 4: In a major breakthrough, Kakraban police of Gomati district successfully rescued a minor girl and arrested the accused youth from neighbouring Assam in connection with a kidnapping case that had triggered panic in the Jamjuri area.
According to police sources, the incident dates back to January 13, when the minor was allegedly kidnapped by Sumit Ghosh from in front of a school in Jamjuri under Kakraban police station. Despite extensive searches by family members and relatives, no clue about the girl’s whereabouts was found for several days.
After waiting for five days, the victim’s mother lodged a written complaint on January 18 at Kakraban police station. Taking the matter seriously, police immediately initiated an investigation under the supervision of Investigating Officer (IO) Purnima Das.
During the probe, police used technical surveillance and confidential inputs, which revealed that the accused and the minor had gone into hiding in Assam. Acting on this information, a special police team was formed and dispatched to Assam.
With assistance from local Assam police, the team conducted search operations at multiple locations. After sustained efforts, both the minor girl and the accused were recovered on February 4 from a specific area in Assam and brought back to Kakraban police station after completing legal formalities.
Police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 137(2), 249(C), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused will be produced before the Udaipur Justice Court on Thursday, police confirmed.
Following the rescue, the victim’s family expressed immense relief. Local residents and civil society members have also lauded Kakraban police for their swift action and successful inter-state operation, calling it a commendable example of efficient policing.
