Tripura, 03 Feb 2026: A tragic road accident claimed the life of an elderly woman after a mini cement truck lost control and crashed into a residential house at Agriculture Chowmuhani, Udaipur, late last night.
The deceased has been identified as Sabita Saha (60+). According to local sources, she was asleep inside her house when the truck reportedly fell from a bridge and ploughed into the structure, trapping her beneath the vehicle and debris.
Soon after the incident, teams from Udaipur Fire & Emergency Services, Radha Kishorepur Police Station, Gomati District Police, along with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Tridip Sarkar, rushed to the spot. Disaster Management personnel and heavy machinery were later deployed as the house had completely collapsed under the truck, complicating rescue efforts.
Family members alleged that the accident occurred around 9:30 pm, while police officials stated the approximate time to be around 10:00 pm. The rescue operation continued for nearly two hours, and the body was finally recovered at about 11:19 pm, triggering tension and panic in the area over the delay.
Speaking to reporters, the Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar (IPS) said that the woman died on the spot after being trapped under the truck. He confirmed that no other person was injured and that the driver had managed to flee. An inquiry has been initiated, and efforts are on to trace the driver and verify the vehicle’s registration details.
The body was later shifted to the hospital for post-incident formalities. Police have assured that necessary legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over vehicular safety near residential zones and the effectiveness of emergency response during night-time accidents.
