Tripura, 01 Feb 2026: Acting on a tip-off, a large police team led by Madhupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Debajit Chatterjee conducted a late-night raid on Saturday at Harhardula Uttarpara.
The raid was carried out at the residence of Pintu Dey (father: late Pintu Dey). During the search operation, one of his associates, a woman identified as Sapna Das (around 70 years old), attempted to flee under the cover of darkness with a sack of ganja. Alert police personnel noticed suspicious movement and, following the sound of the sack being carried, managed to apprehend her along with one sack of ganja.

Subsequent searches led to the recovery of three more sacks of dry ganja from the house. However, sensing police presence, the house owner and prime accused Pintu Dey managed to escape and is currently absconding.
Police arrested Sapna Das on the spot and brought her to the police station along with the seized contraband. The total value of the four sacks of ganja is estimated to be over ₹2 lakh.
Meanwhile, during another simultaneous search operation in a nearby area of Harhardula Uttarpara, police recovered costly sarees worth more than ₹10 lakh.
Further investigation is underway, and police have launched a manhunt to trace the absconding accused.
