Agartala, 27 November 2025: The ONE NORTH EAST THANSA (Unity) Rally held at Astabal Ground in Agartala drew an exceptional public response and marked the first major mass gathering of the newly unified ONE NORTH EAST platform. The rally followed the joint press conference held on 4 November in New Delhi, where regional leaders announced their shared vision of creating a single political platform to represent the collective aspirations of the North East.

Despite disruptions in transportation and the cancellation of early train services, supporters from across Tripura and neighbouring states gathered in large numbers. An estimated crowd of more than thirty thousand people attended the programme, making it one of the largest regional political events in recent years.

The rally was attended by prominent leaders including Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma; NPP Working President James P K Sangma; Daniel Langthasa, Founder of the People’s Party Assam; former Nagaland Minister Mmhonlumo Kikon; senior Manipur leader R K Meghen; former Manipur Speaker Hemochandra Singh; and Ajoy Edwards, Founder and President of the Indian Gorkha Janshakti Front, Darjeeling.

Leaders of the TIPRA Motha Party, including Bubagra Pradyot Bikram Manikya, Party President B K Hrangkhawl, TTAADC Chairman Jagadish Debbarma, Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia, and Ministers Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma, were also present along with several MLAs, Executive Members, and MDCs.

Conrad K. Sangma: “We must rise as ONE North East”

Addressing the massive gathering, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said:
“It is time that we come together as ONE — One North East. Our biggest challenge today is divisiveness. From this stage, we must raise our voice and become ONE.”
He emphasized that the movement is not against any individual or entity, but aims to consolidate the region’s shared aspirations and strengths.

Bubagra Pradyot Manikya: “This is just the beginning”
TIPRA Motha founder Bubagra Pradyot Bikram Manikya thanked all leaders and supporters who travelled from different states to participate.
He stated:
“A few years ago, we united the Indigenous people of Tripura. Today, we take a larger step by uniting the entire North East. This is only the beginning.”
Pradyot Manikya Speaks to the Media
Speaking to the press, Pradyot Manikya highlighted the obstacles faced:
“We were not given the field earlier; trains were cancelled, and many people could not come. Yet, the ground and the roads are packed. I’m very happy with the response.”
On political alignment, he clarified:
“Hum kisi ke khilaaf nahi hain. Hum apne logon ke paksh mein hain.”
(Translation: We are not against anyone. We stand for our own people.)
“Hum kisi ke khilaaf rajniti nahi karte. Hum apne logon ke interest mein kaam karte hain.”
(We do not do politics against anyone. We work for the interests of our people.)
He added:
“Kisi ke khilaaf kaam karenge toh Bangladesh ke khilaaf, Pakistan ke khilaaf karenge.”
(If we work against anyone, it is against external aggressors like Bangladesh or Pakistan.)
Conrad Sangma on Why Unity Was Needed Long Ago
Responding to questions from the media, Conrad Sangma explained:
“When we stand alone, our voices are suppressed. Unity is not about going against anyone—it is about supporting each other, ensuring no state or community feels isolated.”
He said the unified platform will strengthen the region’s voice nationally, adding:
“This will have a very positive impact not just on the Northeast, but on the entire country. It sends a strong message that the Indigenous people of the region are coming together for the future generation.”
A Historic Day for the Entire Region
With an overwhelming response and more than 30,000 participants from various parts of Tripura and neighbouring states, the ONE NORTH EAST THANSA Rally is being viewed as a turning point—a collective step towards unified political vision, mutual support, and a stronger regional identity.
