Agartala: Nov 20. Tripura has rolled out fresh financial aid to 50 schools under the DNA Club Project, aiming to ramp up hands-on biology research and lab-based learning across the state. The initiative, led by the Tripura Biotechnology Council, continues to push scientific curiosity among students.
Under the 2025–26 financial year, these newly selected schools received support for purchasing laboratory equipment and conducting biology-focused experimental activities. So far, 222 schools in Tripura have benefitted from this programme.
To popularise the project further, the Council has also decided to provide year-wise grants to supported schools. As part of this, 50 schools enrolled in 2024–25 received their second-year grant of ₹25,000 each, totalling ₹12.5 lakh.
The grant distribution ceremony took place at Sukanta Academy, in the presence of Science, Technology & Environment Minister Animesh Debbarma. Teachers from the selected schools were also trained on 20 new second-year science projects.
Minister Debbarma stressed the importance of nurturing curiosity and research-oriented mindsets among students, expressing hope that the younger generation would unlock new scientific frontiers. He praised the Biotechnology Council for its consistent efforts.
Senior officials, including Secretary Chaitanya Murti, Member-Secretary Mahendra Singh, and Joint Member-Secretary & Joint Director Aman Sengupta, attended the event. Based on first-year progress assessments, 28 teachers were honoured, and 100 students from the 50 schools were recognised as Best Performing Students. A publication containing DNA Club progress and evaluation data was also launched.
Around 300 teachers, principals, and students participated in the programme. Awarded teachers noted that the project has significantly boosted scientific curiosity among students marking a major success for the initiative.
