Tripura, 19 Nov 2025: A wave of panic swept across Khowai town on Wednesday morning after a rabid dog went on a violent rampage. Around 9 AM, the dog ran through several parts of the town, biting and seriously injuring at least 10–12 people, triggering widespread fear among residents.
Eyewitnesses claimed that even after the incident was reported, the Forest Department failed to respond. Despite repeated calls, no team from the Forest or Animal Control Department arrived at the spot for almost an hour, further angering the already distressed locals.
In this chaotic situation, Khowai Police Station OC Krishnadhan Sarkar and his team took charge. Risking their own safety, the police chased the rabid dog across several areas of the town. After a prolonged operation, the police were eventually forced to neutralize the dog, preventing additional attacks.
Locals widely praised the police for their timely intervention.
According to them, “Had the police not acted quickly, many more people would have been injured. The Forest Department’s indifference is extremely concerning.”
They added, “OC Krishnadhan Sarkar’s swift response saved many lives today.”
Several injured victims were rushed to the Khowai District Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
The attending doctor said, “We have provided them with all necessary primary treatment, including anti-rabies medication. All injured patients are currently under close observation. Some have been shifted to the ICU due to the seriousness of their injuries.”
Following the incident, widespread anger brewed across Khowai against the Forest Department. Residents alleged that the department repeatedly fails to respond in time whether it involves snake rescues, wildlife emergencies, or controlling illegal tree felling across different parts of the region. Conscious citizens stated that this negligence has been ongoing for a long time and today’s incident has only intensified the community’s frustration.
