Tripura, 17 Nov 2025: The state government is committed to adopting a comprehensive policy to ensure the supply of safe drinking water to the people of Tripura. Necessary instructions have already been issued to the concerned departmental officials. The government is alert to ensure that citizens are not deprived of their rightful benefits under any circumstances.
Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha said this while addressing the review meeting of the Drinking Water & Sanitation Department held today at the Secretariat Conference Hall.
The Chief Minister said that the government’s goal is to provide clean and safe drinking water to every household in both rural and urban areas. To achieve this, coordination between public representatives and departmental officials is essential. He also stressed the need to prevent wastage of water at all levels.
Speaking about Tripura’s geographical conditions, the Chief Minister mentioned that the state comprises both hilly and plain regions, which naturally leads to variations in groundwater levels. He directed the department to take initiatives to store rainwater in specific areas and explore its use as a source of drinking water.
Highlighting the importance of water conservation, Dr. Saha said that the Prime Minister has launched the ‘Amrit Sarovar’ project to promote multipurpose use of stored water. People are already benefiting from this initiative in many ways.
During the meeting, A.K. Das, Chief Engineer of the Drinking Water & Sanitation Department, informed that from the financial years 2019–20 to 2025–26, a total of 6,22,258 households have been provided with drinking water connections. Complaints received in this regard are being thoroughly examined.
He reported that the Chief Minister’s Helpline received 1,814 complaints, out of which 1,813 have already been resolved. Additionally, through the ‘Amar Sarkar’ portal, 62,174 issues were raised, and 60,662 have been resolved so far. Efforts are underway to achieve 100% resolution.
Public Works Department Secretary Abhishek Singh and Agriculture Department Secretary Apurba Roy also briefed the Chief Minister about various departmental projects. Senior officials including Superintending Engineers and Executive Engineers of the Drinking Water & Sanitation Department were present at the review meeting.
