Tripura, 14 Nov 2025: Cooperatives are a major pathway to economic and social development and must be strengthened collectively, said Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha while inaugurating the 72nd All India Cooperative Week Celebration and Cooperative Fair at the Purvasha Mela Ground. The event was organized jointly by the Cooperation Department and the Tripura State Cooperative Union.
Cooperatives: A Pillar of Rural Self-Reliance
The Chief Minister said cooperatives offer rural communities an alternative route to self-reliance and social justice. Following the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Cooperation, Tripura is rapidly implementing various schemes to strengthen cooperative infrastructure and improve socio-economic standards.
Key Initiatives Highlighted
The CM detailed several major steps undertaken in the state:
Computerization and diversification of PACS Formation of fishery and dairy cooperative societies Common Service Centres through PACS for e-services World’s largest decentralized grain storage facility in the cooperative sector New Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) through PACS
He added that the government is considering a proposal to exempt cooperatives from income tax. At the national level, three new multi-state cooperatives have been formed. He emphasized that cooperatives are vital for building an Atmanirbhar Bharat, a vision strongly supported by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Strengthening Cooperatives Across Tripura
The CM stressed the importance of empowering cooperatives in both panchayat and ADC areas. To support the movement, the state has adopted a Cooperative Policy, and from 2018 to 2025, a total of 1,656 new cooperatives have been formed.
He urged cooperatives to embrace the One District One Product (ODOP) strategy and focus on robust market linkages.
54 New Projects for Cooperative Growth
Special Guest and Cooperation Minister Sukla Charan Noatia said that cooperatives play a crucial role in handloom, agriculture, dairy, and fisheries sectors. The Cooperation Department has introduced 54 new projects to strengthen the cooperative ecosystem in Tripura.
Awards & Financial Support
During the event, awards were presented in 10 categories to cooperative societies, LAMPS, and PACS for outstanding performance. The Chief Minister also distributed cheques worth ₹85.70 lakh to two cooperative societies and handed over a Micro ATM to another.
Four-Day Cooperative Fair Underway
The Cooperative Fair will continue from 14 to 17 November at the Purvasha Mela Ground. Following the inauguration, the CM and other dignitaries visited all stalls and exhibition units.
