Agartala: Nov 14. The traditional Poush Sankranti Mela of Tripura is set to take place on 13 and 14 January at Tirthamukh under Karbook Sub-division, and the administration has kicked off full-scale preparations to ensure a smooth experience for thousands of pilgrims.
At a review meeting held at 11 a.m. today at the fairground, District Magistrate Rinku Lather made it clear that the top priority this year will be pilgrim comfort. He instructed the Rural Development Department to erect a large tent so that visitors do not have to spend the night under the open sky even if that means reducing the number of shop stalls.

Before the meeting, the DM along with officials inspected the Gomati river’s origin point and the fairground. The review also covered key issues such as road repairs, adequate drinking water, lighting arrangements, toilet construction, traffic regulation, and overall security.
The meeting was attended by MLAs Ranjit Das, Rampada Jamatia, TTAADC’s MDCs Kangjaong Mog, Samrat Jamatia, Saudagar Kalai, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shyamjoy Jamatia, and officials of the district and subdivision.
Responsibilities for various departments were assigned on the spot. The next review meeting will be held on 2 January, the DM confirmed.
