Agartala: Nov 14. The Gomati District Police rolled out a late-night crackdown against drunk driving and helmet violations as district moved into a high-alert zone. During the special operation, breathalyzer tests confirmed that 20 drivers were behind the wheel while intoxicated, prompting immediate action from law enforcement.
The drive took place along the national highway at canal Chowmuhani and Rajarbagh, led by Gomati Superintendent of Police Dr. Kiran Kumar K, Additional SP Desai Rushikesh Jaysing, SDPO Debanjali Ray, Traffic DSP Abhijit Das, and RK Pur OC Sanjib Laskar, backed by a large police and TSR team. Officials said the heightened alert follows a coordination meeting on November 13 with BSF, CRPF, IB, SB, and other agencies amid the current security situation. Strict checking continues across public places, border areas, and major roads, supported by regular vehicle inspections and open checkpoints.
Despite countless examples of how dangerous drunk driving can be, many still take the wheel irresponsibly, putting their own lives and others’ at risk. Police said such awareness drives are essential to preventing major accidents, and similar operations will continue across the district in the coming days.
