Tripura, 12 Nov 2025: ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), Kochi, in collaboration with the College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Lembucherra,Tripura conducted a two-day workshop on “Transforming Inland Fisheries in Tripura: Harvest to Post-Harvest Innovations” under the NEH Plan.
As part of the community outreach, safety life jackets and first-aid kit were distributed to fisher folk underscoring the workshop’s focus on safety and emergency preparedness during fishing operations. The programme was led by Prof. A.B. Patel, Dean College of Fisheries (CAU-I)Lembucherra, Tripura, Dr. George Ninan, Director, ICAR-CIFT, Kochi and Dr. Bindu J, Head, Fish processing Division, ICAR- CIFT, Kochi. The Technical sessions at Dumboor Reservoir, were led by Dr. A. Jeyakumari, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIFT, Dr. Y. Bedajit Singh, Professor (FRM) and Dr. Sri Hari M. Assistant Professor (FRM)College of Fisheries, covering responsible fishing practices and simple, field-ready technologies to reduce post-harvest losses. The officials from Department of Fisheries and fisher folk associations of Mandir Ghat were also attended the programme. The Technical guidelines on responsible fishing practices and effective fish waste utilization were also distributed to Fisheries officials and fisher folk.

On the second day, the programme focused on student capacity building. More than 50 students from the College of Fisheries participated in technical sessions conducted in hybrid mode and the students were interacted with ICAR-CIFT experts ( Dr. M.P. Ramesan, Head, Fishing Technology Division, Dr. Laly, Sr.Scientist, Dr. A.Jeyakumari, Sr. Scientist) and Dr. Bhargavi Priyadarshini, Associate Professor, College of Fisheries on harvest practices, quality assurance, and waste utilization in fish processing and fishing technology.
The event highlighted the shared commitment of ICAR-CIFT and the College of Fisheries to enhance livelihood security, promote safety, and strengthen post-harvest innovation in Tripura’s inland fisheries sector under the NEH Plan.
The program was co-ordinated by Dr. A. Jeyakumari Dr. Y. Bedajit Singh, Dr. Bhargavi Priyadarshini and Dr. Sri Hari.
