Tripura, 9 Nov 2025: In a major breakthrough against the drug trade, Melaghar Police conducted a successful operation at the rubber plantation area of Taibandal-Gamaicherra, acting on secret information. During the raid, police recovered several large drums and packets buried underground, which were later found to contain a massive quantity of dry cannabis.
The seized contraband was brought to Melaghar Police Station, where it was weighed and found to total 720 kilograms. This marks one of the biggest recent seizures in the region, reflecting the police department’s strong commitment to curbing drug trafficking.

The joint operation was carried out by Melaghar Police, TSR, and the State Task Force (STF). Authorities had received prior intelligence that the cannabis was hidden in the forest area under the Forest Department’s rubber plantation.
Local residents have praised the police for their dedication and successful execution of the operation. Speaking to reporters, District Police Officer Bijoy Debbarma warned those involved in the drug trade to stay away, stating that narcotics are destroying both youth and society. He also affirmed that such anti-narcotics drives will continue in the coming days.
Officials from Sonamura Police and other senior officers were also present during the operation. It can be said that after a long time, Melaghar Police achieved a major success in their anti-drug campaign.
