Tripura, 09 Nov 2025: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha said that Tripura’s tourism sector has seen remarkable growth over the past few years, playing a vital role in employment generation and economic development. He emphasized the need to explore new opportunities to further enhance and beautify the state’s tourist destinations. The state government, he said, has accorded top priority to the promotion of tourism.

The Chief Minister made these remarks while inaugurating the two-day Unity Promo Fest 2025 at Narikelkunja on Sunday. He also inaugurated a newly developed children’s park near the Narikelkunja Resort, constructed at a cost of ₹64 lakh.
Highlighting Tripura’s natural beauty, Dr. Saha said the state is blessed with lush greenery, hills, waterfalls, and rivers that make it naturally picturesque, along with a pleasant climate and improved connectivity. He noted that upgrading the Ambassa–Gandacherra–Shantirbazar road to a national highway would significantly boost tourism at Dumbur Lake.

Drawing a parallel with his experience in Kashmir, the Chief Minister suggested introducing opportunities for tourists in Tripura to wear and photograph themselves in traditional ethnic attire, similar to what tourists enjoy in Kashmir. He also underscored the importance of expanding homestay facilities near tourist spots and highlighted various ongoing developmental projects aimed at boosting tourism. Dr. Saha expressed confidence that with collective efforts, Tripura’s tourism industry would continue to flourish.
Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, speaking on the occasion, said that Tripura has many beautiful tourist spots and that improved infrastructure and better services would attract more visitors. The state government, he added, is sincerely working to enhance facilities and services at various tourist destinations. Last year, the Tourism Department approved nine homestays around Dumbur Lake, and in the past year, about 150 homestay facilities have been established indicating a sharp rise in tourist arrivals. He also noted that Tripura currently ranks second in tourist inflow among the Northeastern states, just after Sikkim, and expressed hope of taking the state to the top position.
The event was presided over by Pradip Kumar Jamatia, Chairman of Raishyabari Block Advisory Committee. MLA Nandita Reang Debbarma delivered the welcome address. Among the dignitaries present were Dhalai Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Sushmita Das, MLAs Ranjit Das and Sanjay Manik Tripura, MDC Bhumikanda Reang, Dumburnagar BAC Chairman Premsadhan Tripura, Dhalai District Magistrate Vivek H. B., and Superintendent of Police Mihir Lal Das.
Tourism Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma also addressed the gathering. Following the inauguration, the Chief Minister and guests lit the ceremonial sky lanterns.
