Tripura, 8 November 2025: The state government is tirelessly working for the socio-economic development of the tribal community, giving priority to the progress of marginalized groups through various timely initiatives, said Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha while inaugurating the yarn distribution programme among tribal women for Riha and Pachra weaving at Dasharath Deb Memorial English Medium Model High School in Killa, Gomati district yesterday.
The Chief Minister symbolically handed over weaving yarn to tribal women and stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’, the Tripura Government is moving forward on the path of inclusive development. He mentioned that around 4.8 lakh women across the state are now members of various Self-Help Groups (SHGs), a large portion of whom belong to tribal communities.

Dr. Saha further added that the present government has restored the rightful honour and recognition of the tribal people. The Agartala Airport has been renamed after Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya, the Baramura Hills are now known as Hathai Kotor, and Gandacherra has been renamed Gandatwisa. The state government now grants two days of public holiday during Garia Puja to respect tribal traditions.
Highlighting educational progress, the Chief Minister informed that the number of Eklavya Model Residential Schools has increased from 4 to 219. Under the Janajati Vikas Yojana, 3,325 beneficiaries have received financial assistance of ₹25,000 each, while scholarships for tribal students have been raised from ₹400 to ₹1,000.
Dr. Saha emphasized that the culture, customs, and heritage of the tribal communities are a source of pride for Tripura and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting them. He also urged all communities to maintain unity and harmony to accelerate the state’s development.
Addressing the event, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma said the present government has achieved tangible progress in education, healthcare, connectivity, and livelihood development in tribal areas. He noted that initiatives like this play a crucial role in empowering tribal women towards self-reliance.
Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee highlighted that nearly 39% of the state’s budget has been allocated for the development of tribal areas. MLA Rampada Jamatia also addressed the gathering.
The event was presided over by Killa Block Advisory Committee Chairman Bagan Hari Molsom, while the welcome address was delivered by Ajit Shukladas, Director of Handloom, Handicrafts, and Sericulture Department. Gomati District Magistrate Rinku Lather, social worker Sabita Nag, and several other dignitaries were also present.
