Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy has distanced himself from the controversy over non-payment of pensions to retired TTAADC (Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council) employees. Responding to media queries on Thursday, the minister stated that the state government has no information suggesting that even a single retired employee has been denied pension.
The minister’s remark has sparked fresh debate, as ADC administration officials and retired employees have repeatedly alleged that many have not received their pensions for a long time.
According to Minister Roy, the state government maintains records of all government employees, and if any retired worker’s pension had been withheld, it would have been reflected in government data. He further asserted that the ADC administration should verify whether those employees were appointed by the state government or by the council itself. If they were recruited by the ADC, the minister said, the responsibility for pension payments lies with the council not the state government.
