Agartala: Nov 02. Dharmanagar Police achieved twin successes on Sunday during routine vehicle checking drives at the Anandabazar naka point in North Tripura.
The operation conducted around 2 PM, police detained a suspect named Shahinur while he was passing through the checkpoint. Upon inspection, officers recovered two bags filled with various cigarette brands, smoking pipes, and several small packed items, for which the accused failed to produce any valid documents. The items were immediately seized, and Shahinur was taken into custody for questioning. Police officials confirmed that necessary legal action would follow after verification of the seized materials.
Earlier Sunday, in another routine check at the same naka point, police led by Officer Manoj Pal intercepted a youth riding a new Pulsar bike who was behaving suspiciously. On searching his bag, the team recovered a large quantity of narcotic substances, including 15 boxes containing 2,304 Tramadol tablets and 33 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, hidden cleverly inside.
According to police sources, the black-market value of the seized drugs is estimated at around Rs 20,000. The Preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment was allegedly brought from Silchar and was intended to be smuggled into Kailashahar. The arrested accused, identified as Raju Pal, a resident of South Kacharghat, Kailashahar, has been booked under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the network behind the smuggling.
Police officials lauded the alertness of the personnel on duty and said that such routine naka checks will continue across the district to curb the movement of illegal narcotics and contraband. The consecutive recoveries within hours have once again underlined North Tripura Police’s strong stance against drug trafficking.
