Tripura, 31 Oct 2025: After eight days of unrest that broke out in Shantirbazar during the shutdown called by Tipra Civil Society, a delegation of state ministers and BJP leaders visited the affected area today.
The delegation included Sudhangshu Das, Minister of SC Welfare Department; Bikash Debbarma, Minister of Tribal Welfare; Subal Bhowmik, BJP State Vice-President; and Bipin Debbarma, Joint Secretary of BJP Janajati Morcha. Local MLA Smt. Swapna Das (Pal) also accompanied them.
The team visited various parts of Shantirbazar, inspecting the damaged shops and properties. They interacted with traders and local residents to assess the situation firsthand.

Minister Sudhangshu Das stated that their visit was made under the direction of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha and State BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee. He said,
“Our delegation came here to personally assess the situation after the unfortunate incidents that took place on October 23 during the bandh called by the so-called Civil Society. Several shops in Shantirbazar, especially in the Sonargaon area, were set on fire, looted, and vandalized. Even government officials, including the local BDO, an engineer, and a few traders, sustained serious injuries. This is truly tragic and unacceptable.”

He further condemned the violence, saying that those who carried out such acts of vandalism in the name of the Civil Society were trying to gain political mileage. He expressed deep sorrow and strongly denounced the inhuman acts.
Sudhangshu Das added that not only Bengali traders but also tribal shopkeepers suffered losses in the violence. He appealed to all communities to maintain peace and communal harmony in the region.
