In an unprecedented moment for Assamese cinema, theatres across Assam opened as early as 4.30 a.m. on Friday for the release of ‘Roi Roi Binale’, the final film of the late music and film legend Zubeen Garg. The emotional premiere drew massive crowds, marking both a cinematic milestone and a heartfelt farewell to the icon who redefined modern Assamese culture.
The film, featuring Garg in a poignant role as a blind musician, has triggered an overwhelming statewide response, with tickets selling out rapidly and expectations soaring for record-breaking box office collections.
To honour Garg’s enduring legacy, the Assam government announced that all GST proceeds from the film will be donated to the Kalaguru Artiste Foundation, a charitable initiative founded by Garg to support underprivileged artists.
Garg, who tragically passed away at sea on September 19, played a central creative role in ‘Roi Roi Binale’ not only acting but also composing 11 songs and producing the musical drama.
With fans thronging theatres in the early hours and emotional tributes pouring in, ‘Roi Roi Binale’ stands as a symbolic farewell to an artist whose music and vision transformed the landscape of Assamese art and cinema.
