Tripura, 30 Oct 2025: Animal resources play a vital role in the development of the rural economy. At present, animal husbandry is not just a means of livelihood for families but also an important driver of socio-economic development in the state. The contribution of the Department of Animal Resource Development in this regard is immense. Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha stated this while inaugurating the 17th Foundation Day of the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry at R.K. Nagar today.

In his address, the Chief Minister said that the Department of Animal Resource Development is working towards the promotion of veterinary education, research, and excellence in animal healthcare. The department has been implementing various programs to make the state self-sufficient in milk, eggs, and meat production. The government has placed special emphasis on increasing the production of animal-based proteins. The state has already achieved self-sufficiency in meat production, while active efforts are underway to achieve the same in milk and egg production. Several dairy cooperative societies have also been formed, thereby creating new employment opportunities.
The Chief Minister added that the prestige of this college is on par with any other veterinary institution in India, and maintaining that reputation lies in the hands of students and teachers. He urged both to be sincere in their studies and teaching and encouraged students to think innovatively to enhance their personal and academic excellence.
Highlighting the growing number of students in the college, Dr. Saha praised its significant contribution to the development of animal resources in the state. He also mentioned various government initiatives aimed at supporting livestock farmers, including the Mukhyamantri Unnat Godhan Project, Pashupalak Samman Nidhi, Mobile Veterinary Units, Mukhyamantri Pashusampad Bikash Yojana (Duck and Poultry Rearing Scheme), and the National Programme for Dairy Development.
